Question for the boyband slashers...

Mmmk, so I keep getting this in feedback:

"...everyone knows Chris and Lance don't like each other..."

or some variation thereof.

And I'm so confuzzled! I started writing the pairing right when people were starting to order the Reel NSYNC, I think, and it came up more then, but it still comes up in...roughly a third of my feedback. From lists, anyway, not so much from LJ. This post is actually prompted by seeing it brought up in conversation on one of my lists. I can't take it anymore, I just gotta know where this impression comes from!

See, the more quotes I read, the more footage I view--the more I see Chris making Lance the focus of a lot of jokes, yeah. But it doesn't seem *mean*. It seems playful and a lot like a kid on the playground taunting someone he really, really likes. And I don't mean that in a slashy sense, although it's fun to slash that behavior.

If that makes any sense. *G*

I know that most of the people who read my journal have at least a little love of the TrickyFish--you'd need it, to read this crap. ;-) But one of you has to know the reasoning behind this! Is it just fanon? Is there some old basis for the idea? Some new basis I don't know about? C'mon, c'mon, help me out--the idea gives me bunnies and I don't know which ones to run with here! *G*

I'm not entirely sure where it comes from, but I know it was more or less fanon when I came into the fandom. But I think that Reel NSYNC poked all kinds of holes in that, because Lance and Chris seemed to be playmates back then if not good friends. Honestly, I don't know where the idea that they don't get along came from. *shrug*

I know when I first began writing in the fandom I completely believed Chris and Lance were the least friends of all the guys. I don't know WHERE I got that idea from but I was positive of it. I guess I just thought Chris got on Lance's nerves and that Chris thought Lance was a total dork. ?? I especially believed this in the beginning of their boyband togetherness.

The Reel *NSYNC completely proved me wrong. Although I fell for the TrickFish long before that.

They are my ultimate pairing now. I just love stories about them!

Just adding my two cents in here. I don't have any idea where it comes from but mostly it has to do with the togetherness factor. there is just tons of proof of Bassez and Timbertrick in photoshoots and the like. Chris and Lance hardly interact in most of the pictures or videos we've seen. When i first got into the fandom about 2 years ago all I saw is Bassez and some Timbertrick. They are complete opposites and their characters do tend to clash. I myself started liking the pairing and now they are my favorite due to stories I read not because of any real proof. The Reel nsync and that picture of Chris hugging Lance from behind is the most real proof i've seen of them together. I guess when it comes to NSYNC we all see what we want to see. Bassez fans don't see Teerlove and JuC fans don't see Bassez and so on and so on. That was a long rant but yes that's my opinion. SJ
