[livejournal.com profile] kerri_berri's little brother gave me CHICKEN POX.

Coal in Aaron's stocking this year...CHECK.

*sulk*

But I actually knew I had it on like, Thursday. Some of you guys had to hear about it on IM, and I told my co-workers just in case but I was all, 'I'm a hypochondriac though! It's probably nothing. Or possibly strep. Strep throat is always accompanied by weird rashes for me. I'll go to a doctor if they don't go away.' But then some of them started to go away over the weekend (although other ones popped up) and I didn't want to go to the doctor so I was all, 'It's just, uh, body acne. Accompanied by a low-grade fever. Um. Yeah.'

I slept a lot this weekend (around finishing my YULETIDE STORY WHEE) and feel a lot better, and my temperature is still not right but only a little too high--in the 99s when normal for me is in the 97s. So today I went to my mom's house while she was at work, and started some laundry, and then took a nap in her recliner in hopes of having energy to do some Christmas shopping later.

My mom ran into [livejournal.com profile] kerri_berri's mom on her way home from work and I guess they were talking about how me and Aaron were both sick with very similar tired-sore throat-sniffly-fever symptoms. I had told Kerri about the rash and she must've mentioned it to her mom, who told my mom, and I guess also told her that people can get chicken pox twice and she should check me out. I hadn't given my mom details because I felt stupid whining to her about something that was OMG NOTHING so she stomped into the house mad that I'd whine but not tell her everything, and demanded to see my chest and back.

I was in big trouble, and I knew it. So I was like, 'There are no spots!' and woah, did that piss her off. She said, 'Alison Jean {Last-Name}, do not lie to me or I will kill you where you sit.'

I said, 'Your glasses are really cute, Mom. Also, I like your sweater!' but that didn't get me off the hook. She just stood there looking at me until I gave up. She always wins, so unfair, omg.

But anyway, apparently they're classic chicken pox, although pretty mild. I have them on my chest, back, behind my ears, on my scalp, and I had a few on my forearms and legs that are already almost gone. And they barely itched until I acknowledged their existance, goddammit. But I have oatmeal, baking soda, and Benadryl, and research on the internet that assures me if you get chicken pox as an adult but it's the second round, it'll be mild and short-lived, so all will be well.

Aaron's still getting COAL, though. Feh.

I didn't know you could get it twice, either. I've never had it once, that I know of. Anyway, I hope it's mild and short-lived.

If you'd had it, you'd know. There's a vaccine for it now that you might want to talk to your doctor about! I understand that if you get it for the first time as an adult, it's a truly horrible experience.

Also, thanks you! :) I think I'm already over the worst of it, so this is all kind of anticlimactic, but I was just so. amused in a way. that I had to tell people. ;-)

Well, I glad you're better.

I had heard if you had a mild version when you were young, you could get it again. Not sure if that's bad info or not, but it's why I'm always nervous around people that have it, even though I had a pretty bad case when I was little :)

and errr...hit post too soon.

I hope you get better quickly! and congrats on finishing the yuletide fic :)

When I was reading online about it when I came home today, that info came up a couple more times, so I think it's right. And when I had chicken pox before, I was six, and I had it so mildly that I remember it more as a vacation with lots of ice cream and bathtub time than anything else. So that's definitely a factor in this, I think.

Anyway, thank you for overcoming your nerves long enough to offer sympathy! *g*

Yup, my brother got them twice also. When he had them as a child, it was very mild and the doctor warned mom it could happen again. As soon as his daughter got them last year, my bro was down them also.

I had them so bad as a kid that I'll never, ever get them again. It was awful!

I hope you are feeling better now!

Awww, poor baby Hammerhead! I saw some photos of people with bad cases that made me cringe, it looks so painful and miserable. It makes me glad I had a mild case the first time, it definitely seems better to have it mildly twice than horribly once.

I had them in my mouth! Down my throat! In private places that shouldn't itch like that!

:twitches:

Never again, though.

Have you tried the oatmeal bath for the itch?

I had it twice! Once at 2 and again at 7. I still have scars. bastards.
