Okay, so, today is the day we realize I am old. Ish.

Well, all right, I'm 26 (eta and have been for a while *G*). But today is the fifth birthday of this journal! I started it at [livejournal.com profile] rhyssj's urging, posted a story without using an LJ cut, and friended a slew of people, many of whom are still on my friendslist anyway. Aww!

That means I posted my first popslash story to a mailing list on April 1st five years ago, which means six years ago I was primarily in The Sentinel fandom, which means seven years ago I was primarily in X-Files, which means I've been in fandom almost eleven years. I have people on my friendslist I have known from fandom for eleven years. I find that both amazing and a little freaky. But mostly amazing. ;-) People who've been in fandom 20+ years--hush. *grins*

Also, I had an appointment today to get my vision checked. I've been having migraines that are worse than usual, have been having a hard time reading road signs and dealing with the glare from my computer at work, and thought probably all the problems were connected. I hadn't had my eyes checked in years--all I could remember is that when I was like, 18, they told me my vision was 20/10 and I didn't even know you could DO better than 20/20.

But they told me today that I'm a little nearsighted now, about 20/35 in my left and 20/25 in my right, and it could be corrected to 20/15 with glasses. So. I have my very first pair on order. Meep! For years I've been all, oh, I think glasses look so awesome on other people, I want glasses, though I thought I didn't need them. In reality, now that I need them, I don't look awesome in glasses. *grins*. Put my eyes in individual little frames and suddenly it's more obvious that they're asymetrical. I was making faces at myself in the mirror and going 'aaack! OMG! Never make that face again! Good lord, woman, never have any expression ever again. Woah.' Fun!

Eventually we settled on a pair with no rims on the bottom--I can't direct link but if you go to women's frames at Lenscrafters, then choose semi-wireless rims, they're like the Vogue VO3559 ones, but black. That style, different brand. They're not bad, they look all right. I paid way more though--like $180 dollars, plus $60 anti-glare coating. The optometrist said that it wasn't a bad idea to wear them a lot and that the anti-glare would help with the headaches, but my insurance only covered $130 of the frames and none of the coating. Meep again, although I suppose I should just be grateful I have the insurance at all.

I immediately called my mom and my sister to whine, all zomg I'm aging, zomg I look bad in glasses, and they had no sympathy, as they've both worn glasses for years. Jerks. I told Trisha, you never smile, and I'm going to need to walk around with one eyebrow raised skeptically at all times so no one notices my face is totally wrong, and people are going to think we're snobby and snobbier, but she assures me that this is not true. We'll see, I say, no pun intended. We'll see. ;-)
