Last year, we had this whole big dramatic bomb event in town. This year? So far no bombs, but don't think we're boring! This is still a fun town! I offer snippets of a T&G article from last week as evidence, most names changed to protect me from the crazy internet stalkers I know voraciously read my LJ ISO hints to my supersekrit real identity, omg.

The controversial Finance Committe Chairman had competition in the annual election Monday from a write-in candidate who is literally a joke of a human being--TV cartoon character Homer Simpson.

Homer's total vote was in the "three figures," the town clerk said yesterday ... "I had visions of calling a Homer Simpson at 11 o'clock last night and telling him he'd been elected."

I love this town.

In other news, I am still failing to kill my houseplants and in fact am not even managing to neglect them very much. This bodes well for my plans to get a real live mammal pet at some point in the near future.

Some friends and I went to go see Audioslave at the club where we saw JC in 2003 and it was probably the third best show I've ever seen in my life (they did Rage Against the Machine's Killing in the Name of! And Chris Cornell! sang Black Hole Sun! Acoustic! 30 ft from me! squeeeeeee). The stuff off the past and future albums was amazing too. I love their CD, but Audioslave live is something. else. entirely.

I also went to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, with people who thankfully did not bring their own towels to the showing. I almost didn't survive the Star Wars 'bring your own light saber!' fiasco of a couple years ago (whereby almost didn't survive I mean fell asleep during the midnight showing on the night it opened and could have been poked to death by a light saber wielding friend). I enjoyed Hitchhiker's Guide, but as a fan of the series to an almost LotRfen degree--yeah, I wish they'd let me direct it. *G*

Other fannish stuff:

Numb3rs. It's like they crossed The Sentinel with 3-2-1 Contact with math and crack to get this show, I swear. Merry sent the first 10 episodes on DVD and I watched them constantly for like, a week. Now I have this kind of adoration for Larry/Charlie that is completely unexpected, but fun.

I'm back on SGA now, endlessly rewatching Hide and Seek and The Defiant One. I love this show, but I'm having a really hard time writing it. I keep hoping that it won't become another Due South for me. How it's possible to love a show so much that the tapes get worn out (seriously worn out, I think part of me was hoping for a Velveteen Rabbit kind of fate for them, which hey, maybe now that there are DVDs!), and not be able to write your OTP...I just don't know. It's tragic. [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic is having a voyeurism challenge right now, for which I have an idea that I like, so hopefully, hopefully, that'll get me going.

Oh, also. Is it wrong that I want someone to do a Ford/Teyla vid to Blowin' Me Up? Because, heeeeeeee. *cough*

I can't be blamed, if it is. I live in a town where hundreds of people voted Homer Simpson for Finance Committee! Weird is in the water here, I swear!
