So it was indeed a bomb last night, not a hoax. According to the paper, the house of a person who had recently died was being cleaned out and military C4 explosive was found inside. It was primed and, apparently, set to go off if handled wrong.

At about 10:30, I was online talking to people and heard this big boom--it shook my apartment and echoed off the hills nearby. It was the weirdest thing, not loud but intense and I was saying how it was like I could feel the soundwave move past me. They had gotten the bomb to the lake, put it in the hole they had dug, and apparently detonated it.

I live about two miles from the lake. What would it have felt like if it had gone off around the corner from me? What about the town employee who drove the garbage truck to the beach, what would have happened if it went off in the truck? No wonder that guy was so nervous last night when we heard him on the scanner asking for silence. What did it feel like to all the police officers who were only 300 feet away from it when it went off?

After the bomb was detonated, they kept the street closed while they continued searching the house. More military weapons and equipment were found inside. Mom and I were thinking, who recently died who'd have access to that kind of stuff? A Guard soldier from our town committed suicide in Iraq, was it his? Why would he leave a primed bomb in his family's home? He died months ago, if it was his why is it just being found now? If it wasn't his, how did a civilian from our little hick town get access to military items like C4?

The paper didn't say whose house it was or provide any other details so of course our brains are just spinning with questions. It's all very unsettling. Thankfully our local police handled the situation very well and no one was hurt and the whole event provided the town with drama to live off for months, but man. Man. Creepy.
