Jun. 1st, 2004 06:46 pmSo I sprained my left wrist and ankle--the wrist is apparently sprained in a way that means 'there's a little chip of bone floating off the end of your ulna but it's tiny, we're not going to worry about it' and the ankle in a way that means 'I can't see anything wrong but it's so swollen, you want to wait for that to go down and if you're still in pain have it re-examined'. Air cast for 6-8 days, wrist splint for 14 days. Minimal walking, no using the wrist so no crutches--about which we say a secret yay. I can't seem to get the air cast or the splint to fit right and I hate them but it's nothing compared to my hatred for crutches.
How did I do this? Surfing accident! (...ahahaha) I was at work and I needed to go to the other kennel for a minute, so I walked out the back door and stepped on the dirt path across the property. After 2 weeks of rain the dirt path had apparently become a mud pit, which I am too stupid to have guessed would have happened and no one warned me about, so down I went! Oooooow, and I was covered in nasty mud from ankle to hip, and did I mention ow? Yes.
The doctor told me to take 2 days off but a) I'm poor b) and I don't have sick days and c) two days wouldn't be covered by the workman's comp people and d) Wednesdays at the kennel are Hard Days that either I or my boss need to be there for, and they're in South Carolina. I called them before and after I went to the ER and we worked out a 'sit on your butt and call the girls whenever you would need to walk or use both hands' plan to be in effect till I go on vacation, which will be Sunday. So. Yeah. Funtimes.
I am sooo not good at typing one handed/typing with the splint so everyone I normally chat with will have to forgive me for either not being online or being slow to respond or wanting you to dance for my amusement and fetch me some jello. 'mkay?
And
giglet, pull up a chair for me in the accident-prone popslasher gallery. But be careful! Don't break anything! ;-)
