giddygeek: tree silhouette with rainbows & hearts (Toss the Temp! from Mia)
I so lost again. Hmph. I said today, OK, I don't necessarily want to be like, tanned or anything. I just want to look like I've been touched by sunshine at some point in the past decade or so.

People laughed. Oh, the laughing. Thanks, people, just what I needed to encourage me in my delusional quest--a challenge to prove everyone wrong. Dooooomed to fail. I was outside in the sun for a little over an hour but was driven inside by a heat-induced headache. Bah.

Earlier today, I worked. The kennel owners are on vacation so I had a small group of volunteers (by volunteers I mean people I bribed) working short shifts (and by shifts I mean a couple hours here and there). I was there myself from about 8:30 until 1. The owner had asked me to keep the office open and take appointments, but no one wanted to come out on the 4th of July. At about 9:30 I rigged a way to bring the phone down the stairs into the kennel with me and cleaned all the rooms I could reach, which turned out to be about half of them. Also did meds and vaccines and etc, while answering phone calls, so basically I rock, whoot. My AM volunteer fed and watered and cleaned the other half of the kennel. My PM volunteer had not shown up by the time I left, which is OK because she only needed to be there from 2-6 or so, but I'm going to have to cruise by the kennel later and make sure she got there.

My mother brought in our spaniel at 12:30 and I shaved her (on company time, neener!), gave her a bath and stuff. She looks really fabulous now, so again, I rock. AM Volunteer had been like, what is she, a poodle cross? when she first came down the stairs into the kennel. Poor Keish. She looked more like a great black bear than a poodle cross. But now she is prancing around showing off, and feeling a great deal cooler. So cute.

Part of my plan had been to completely slack during the hours I was forced to be in the office today. I have this fic I've been working on for what feels like years, and it's only four or five scenes from finished, and I just want it done. I'm finding myself incapable of writing at my computer these days, too easily distracted by chat and internet and like, staring blankly at the screen. But if I sit down with a notebook and make myself plug away, I get something accomplished. It seems though that I'm incapable of longterm, committed slacking at work.
And now I rejoin the family. I adore my mom and stepdad, they're hysterical and cute and wonderful, but the rest of his people? I would seriously prefer to fall off the Earth than talk to them. Sadly enough, they're an improvement over my mother's family, but there's only so many times Don can refer to me as The Eldest Liberal Shithead before I want to take a bat to him. ;-)

Enjoy the rest of the holiday, everyone. And be safe. We don't want to hear about any incidents of sparkler related tragedy on Monday!
