Apr. 28th, 2002 09:55 amOK, so, maybe not as cool as an NSync concert experience--which I have had none of, as I stupidly turned down tickets to both NSA and Celebrity because I didn't like boybands...as my friend K would say, "Hahahaha, what*Ever*, Alison," but we went to see They Might Be Giants last night. I just want to pimp them to like, *everyone*. They were just so amazing live, I loved it.
They were playing at Franklin Pierce, where K and another friend are students. So I drove up, got here around 5pm--the show was supposed to start at 7 and we wanted to be right up front. Due to the apparently widespread knowledge that the opening band *sucks*, we were the only people there, whoo. Right in front of the stage, and dead center. The opener shall not be spoken of, other than to say that it was a reggae band whose leader wore cowboy boots with chains and kept accidently knocking over his microphone stand. Also, the keyboardist looked like the Bounty Hunter from X-Files. Sigh.
But! They Might Be Giants!
I'm a really reserved person, typically. I was a performer in HS--showchoir, heehee--but offstage I'm really quiet. For TMBG, though, I was jumping and dancing and screaming and singing along. We *all* were. They were so energetic, and seemed so into it despite the fact that there were only like 200 people there since everyone else was pretty much *drunk* off their *asses*. I have no voice left today, but am still croaking along with the CDs because I swear, I'll never get the songs out of my head again. *g*
I wanna see them again so bad--they were talking about a secret performance to be done in NYC in August ("All we can say is that it will be centrally located" which like, three quarters of the crowd didn't get, and I have no idea why!) K's turning 21 in August, so we decided to make it a celebration and basically live in New York that entire month, just hanging out and waiting for TMBG.
Hee. We'll be stalkers--
Although not as bad as the girl who was behind me, who had seen them *84* times. She wasn't a student at FPC or a guest, so she almost didn't get in, but I guess she impressed the staff with her knowledge of the band. I was creeped out until I thought about what *I* do in my spare time. ;-)
Anyway, if you haven't done it already, go buy They Might Be Giants CDs. Go see them live, if you can. They were just. Too great.
I'm going to go lie down again now. Didn't sleep until 4, was back up at 7 although I just stayed in bed and stared at the ceiling unil 9:30. So. frigging. tired. But happy! Sleepy! But still singing!
Also, incoherent. Sorry. :)
