I know 'Sarah Palin' and 'Honor' don't really go together, but

Oh man, this is right up my alley. Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] norabombay:

Make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Sarah Palin's name. And here's the good part: when you make a donation to PP in her name, they'll send her a card telling her that the donation has been made in her honor! You can make a donation for as little as $5.00!

Here's the link to the Planned Parenthood website: https://secure.ga0.org/02/pp10000_inhonor

You'll need to fill in the address to let PP know where to send the "in Sarah Palin's honor" card.

McCain/Palin for President
1235 S. Clark Street
1st Floor
Arlington, VA 22202

*

And even if you can't donate, pass it on, if you're so inclined. ;-)

ETA: Mentioned in comments that some folks are worried that a meme of this nature could take away from political donations. I didn't think of that, because I donate to good Democrats and also to Planned Parenthood anyway.

Here's my suggestion -- if you can, match your donation to PP in Sarah Palin's honor with another one to the political candidate(s) of your choice. And if you have to choose between one donation and another, go with the politician. After all, if McCain/Palin and their cohorts get to the White House, PP's existence is threatened by more than short funds!

I just read an article on Jezebel about this- they were against it, since, as they put it: "The problem with this idea is that Obama forewent public financing on the basis of relying on donors — big and small — to continue giving him money. If people give the $5 or $10 to PPFA instead and send cards to McCain's office, you're just notifying him how much money Obama is losing. Heck, I wouldn't put it past a Republican operative for starting the chain, especially since it doesn't encourage donations to PPFA's PAC, which can spend the money to run ads about the candidates/reproductive rights, but to the organization itself, which cannot. Please be careful about forwarding this along. If something like this really went viral, it could do a lot of damage."

I don't know if I agree with what they say- there's no guarantee that giving money to PP means you can't donate to Obama, but I thought I would put it out there, since I think they have a little bit of a point.

Yeaaaaaah, I don't know -- but I've donated to the Obama campaign and will continue to donate, plus I'm a regular donor to PP anyway. Maybe I'll make an ETA to recommend people match their donation to PP with a donation to the political candidate of their choice. Thanks for the heads-up!

I saw these both simultaneously- which was almost too viral for me. :D

As far as donations, Planned Parenthood is also raising money right now (along with NARAL) to help get Obama elected...so money you donate to them does go to help Obama right now.
