You know how something makes you squeak with joy, and you replay it a couple times and it just keeps getting better, and at the end you're just sort of pawing at the tv or computer screen, full of love?

I'm totally doing that right now.

She rocks like a rocking thing!

She does, she does--I'm feeling like kind of a fan. ;-)

What's the context on this?

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2007-03-25 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That was from Al Gore's testimony last week on global warming, before the Senate Environment and Public Works committee. Sen. Inhofe was asking for yes or no answers and Al Gore was giving explanations; Sen. Boxer was giving Inhofe extra time but it was turning into a drama-fest anyway. You can find the whole 2+ hour thing on cspan.org or highlights on youtube--kind of intense!

Remember that song, "Ride, Sally Ride"? (Or was that before your time? Sally Ride = astronaut on the shuttle, and the first American woman in space, in 1983, which is pitiful but that's a rant for another day.)

We need another song: "Pound that Gavel, Nancy Pelosi!"

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2007-03-25 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
This particular gavel belonged to Barbara Boxer, but I enjoy watching Nancy Pelosi at work too. Maybe there should be some new variation of the If I had a Hammer song for them. Not quite as catchy as Ride, Sally Ride, but I'd sing along. ;-)

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2007-03-25 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
And as soon as I hit send I thought, oh, duh, she was referring to Pelosi as the first woman to be speaker, not as the swinger of this particular hammer. *rolls eyes at self*

This is me, hiding my face in shame.

Nitpick: The song is actually "Mustang Sally" and it was written in 1965, well before Sally Ride became famous.

No, actually, "Ride, Sally Ride" is a different song. With not nearly as catchy a tune as "Mustang Sally".

Wonderful! Thank you for the link.

You're welcome! I had a feeling people on my f'list would like it. ;-)

Hee, thanks! Trix told me about this earlier and I'm so happy to have seen it now!

You're welcome! I'd heard about it too, and then found the video linked in comments on DailyKos and was just so happy. It's pretty fun! ;-)

She rocks. So hard. And you're right. The more times I watch it, the better it gets. Thanks for sharing, chica =)

You're welcome! She does rock--I am all for anyone putting the pasty-faced petulant Republican denial experts (not that I'm bitter) in their place, but I just really love how she does it with snark and yet in a soft-spoken, reasonable way. Pretty. Awesome. Glad you liked!

*love*

Yep, we Californians definitely voted for the right lady for the job.

Though I've never realised how soft-spoken she is, but I guess that doesn't matter, as long as your personality is strong enough.

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2007-03-28 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Her personality certainly seems pretty strong! I've heard a lot about her but never really seen her speak and I gotta say, way to go, Californians. ;-)
