New Year's Eve was a blast, although it had a bad start when I drove around for 4 hours trying to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] misspamela to see Brokeback Mountain. Rte 128/95 is NOT my friend and an hour and a half after the movie started, I finally made it to the right town but the wrong theatre. I didn't even KNOW there were 2 theatres in that town. Grarrrrgh.

But a couple hours after I got home, Trisha and I met up with some of my friends for dinner, then we headed down to Providence despite horrid road conditions--ice, snow, all the fun stuff. Many hours of drinking later, six of us (the non-wimps! :-p) were out in front of the townhouse having the best snowball fight of all time, omg, so much fun! I went to bed around 4 and then woke up around 9 and came home feeling ridiculously hungover--seriously, okay, I don't know what it is about parties in Providence but I come home a *mess*--and yet also ridiculously cheerful.

In fannish news, it's DWNOGA and Yuletide reveal time!

This year, I wrote two DWNOGA stories. One for [livejournal.com profile] lilysaid, Everything in its Place, GSF.

Lily! I'm very amused that you guessed it was me! I want you to know, this story made me miss NSYNC so much, the group part was so so easy and fun, I had an absolute blast with it. It also led me on a wild chase around the internet in search of good group sex fiction and other varities of porn, which was. Well. Educational. But everytime I tried to sex up the ending it just didn't seem to work for the story. Anyway, that's an apology for not writing you porn. *grins* I'm glad you liked it!

[livejournal.com profile] kaneko and [livejournal.com profile] merryish did read-throughs, as did [livejournal.com profile] astolat and [livejournal.com profile] terrio--brave souls who aren't even pop fans, but who helped tremendously!

I also wrote The Only Constant for [livejournal.com profile] ephemera_pop, Chris/Lance.

I got this assignment the weekend before stories were due--which is also the weekend I got a concussion. *grins* I took the story anyway because OMG, Chris/Lance, how much love do I have for them? More than can be expressed, ever! I was really glad to have the chance to write them for another year of SeSa. It made me so happy.

For Yuletide, I wrote Good for You, Eric/Vince from Entourage, for [livejournal.com profile] estrella30.

I put this on my Yuletide list after having watched 3 episodes with [livejournal.com profile] misspamela, because I was SO IN LOVE with them! When I got [livejournal.com profile] estrella30's request, I freaked out--yay, someone I know! Yay ENTOURAGE! Yet also, OMFG, what was I thinking? *grins*

This story was so much fun to write. I can't even count how many times I rewatched s1, etc. The episodes were seriously just little candies that I couldn't resist. And now I've got a little list of other Entourage stories that I want to write. So much fun.

[livejournal.com profile] misspamela helped immensely and made sure that the guys stayed in character. [livejournal.com profile] astolat, [livejournal.com profile] terrio, and [livejournal.com profile] merryish also did beta on this one--again, without being familiar with the fandom. Brave, brave beta readers. *grin*

Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] firequill, who wrote Chris/AJ for me (Check, double check) for SeSa!

And also to [livejournal.com profile] gritkitty, who wrote me what is now one of my favorite Master & Commander stories ever, The Murmuring of Bees Has Ceased.

Aaaaand that is the New Year's roundup, I guess. Best wishes for a wonderful 2006, guys--you all deserve it! :)

I haven't even had a chance yet to dig into the dwnoga stories, but OMG!GIDDY!TRICKYFISH! Ahem. I think I'll read that one first. *g*

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins* I appreciate the enthusiasm, but call your attention to the notes above re: weekend before, concussion, and the lack of beta thanks. I think it's adorable but it's entirely possible that I've got some kind of bias!

You know, I haven't had a chance to dig into them either? It's been such a busy few weeks--it took me 5 days to have time to read the stories written for me, let alone anything else! But from what I'm hearing, quality was high for both SeSa and Yuletide this year. Very exciting!

[identity profile] trixiesfic.livejournal.com 2006-01-02 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Have since read it, and as expected, I loved it. This is my favorite part:

"And I'm strange. And bitter."

"I'm strange and happy," Lance said. "Do you want to see my cosmonaut certificate?"

Oh yeah, baby. That's the trickyfish I know and love.

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2006-01-02 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
*grins* Me too! Chris and Lance, man. No other pairing like it. They're both just so weird and perfect and, sigh. So much fun. And I'm glad that you loved the story. Thank you so much! :)

Happy New Year to you too! :-)

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2006-01-02 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I hope you had a wonderful NYE and first day--so hard to believe it's 2006 already, isn't it? :)

I did - thank you! :-) And yeah, time just flies by...

Hee! I was blown away by how perfect it was; just funny and happy and them. That was the thing that stood out the most, I think, because there are so many different interpretations of the guys, so it was a treat to get a story where they were characterized in such a lovely way. No apologies needed for lack of porn--I was telling someone the other day that the story needed no porn whatsoever, and that it was totally the right decision not to force it. But of course you didn't make any mistakes with such wonderful writers helping you, and all I can say about this year's SeSa experience is yayayay!

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*beams* Good! I was so afraid you were going to be disappointed.

Thank God for beta readers, honestly. You might've ended up with bad porn if no one had said 'yes, yes, it IS good like that, leave it--no, stop--no, PUT THAT DOWN, MORON, JEEZ!!' a couple dozen times. *G*

Party's at my place are ALWAYS the best!!! :-D Glad you had fun!

P.S. I am NOT a wimp!!

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2006-01-02 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Pfft, anyone who didn't come outside to play is a wimp, wonky ankle or no wonky ankle! ;-)

It was a good time, I'm glad you guys held it! Thank you!

You do, you so do, and I'm totally going to attempt to get everyone I know into the fandom if only so they'll read my fic if I write more. I never said I wasn't selfish! *grins* I'm so glad we watched, and so so glad to have gotten it for Yuletide, even if it did make me freak a little. You were great! Thank you so much!

[identity profile] brooklinegirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-03 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
a) I owe you massive amounts of gushy feedback for the hot, melty PERFECTION of "Good for You." GOD, Nan is lucky!

b) trying (and most likely failing) to not be stalkery, but did you get the email I sent re: [livejournal.com profile] misspamela?

[identity profile] wearemany.livejournal.com 2006-01-03 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
i am so glad you mentioned you wrote the Entourage fic, becuase somehow i missed it in the archive reading i did, and, jesus, oh my fucking god, this is a great story. i'm gonna ramble here but before i do, what i love is that there are some stories (and believable ones, i think) about how eric's the one in love with vince, how eric's the one who knows what he wants and has to try to talk vince into it. this completely cold me on the opposite, or anyway the other angle, that Vince has always known what he wanted and was just waiting for the day when he could claim it, could claim E just like that booth, like LA, like everyone who plops down $10 for a movie ticket. like that. you made me buy that. now for the rambling:

you have that slippery, flirty yet needy tricky voice of Vince's down so well that as SOON as i read this: He tried out for the school play mostly to spite the boy who had told him he was too pretty for the basketball team. i though, mm, i bet E said things like that to him.

i love that instead of asking for him, Vince makes a commotion, makes E come to him (except, of course, how E totally is the one who held out).

and here: He leaned back and crossed his arms over his chest. "Good for you, man," he said to the tabletop and Vince couldn't even be mad 'cause he fucking meant it, Eric, he meant good for you when everyone else in Queens had meant fuck you, give me something. not only can i SEE that, but it's so true, and so painfully real.

and THIS made me laugh, laugh, laugh. "He's in the fucking room," Eric muttered, and his mother smacked him on the arm.

"You need the soap?" she said to him, glaring fiercely.

"No, Ma, sorry. But I am in the room!"

eeeee! ditto to everything expressed above, b/c that is the perfect ENTOURAGE story. Pitch-perfect canon voices, Vince a charming, careless, emotional bastard, and Eric the careful one who won't ever call him on his bullshit. I already left you fb on the story, but I figure I should make sure you get how wonderful the tory is, and how deeply I encourage you to write more.

More!

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2006-01-13 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I hope to write more! I love those characters, man. And I think that the show leaves a lot of room for interpretation. ;-) Thanks again--such kind words are always appreciated!

*beams* I'm so glad! It took me a long time to get this story going, and I wasn't sure about the direction. But I just--in the end, I could see their relationship going something like this. And it was so, so satisfying to me to write it! Then I just had to hope that other people who like Entourage would not think I was on crack.

<<that there are some stories (and believable ones, i think) about how eric's the one in love with vince, how eric's the one who knows what he wants and has to try to talk vince into it.>>

*nods* I've read and adored those stories too, but when I was obsessively watching and rewatching the episodes, it just seemed like if anyone was a little oblivious to the subtext, it was Eric. Vince was all eyefucking, posing, jealous, supportive, manipulative, and devoted in his strange Vince way. Eric just didn't seem to always get it.

slippery, flirty yet needy tricky voice of Vince's >>

I love him for being the eyefucking, posing, jealous, devoted bastard that he is, much the same way that I love Timberlake. ;-)

Anyway, thanks so much. I'm sorry to respond so late, and I'm seriously very glad that you enjoyed the story. Yay for post-holiday fic round-ups!

[identity profile] mmeguilotn.livejournal.com 2006-01-04 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
EEE, you wrote Entourage! Seriously, I squealed and did a little happy dance before I even read the story. (I haven't had time to read through Yuletide yet, but your post made me skip ahead.) And then the story was even better than I could have hoped. It's like all the things I love about your popslash and then more because Vince/Eric is like my one true "weird about each other" pairing of love. The backstory and the banter and the sex and just all of it was so awesome! And then And now I've got a little list of other Entourage stories that I want to write. Yay!

[identity profile] giddygeek.livejournal.com 2006-01-13 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
They are like popslash! A little less, um, idealized? but the same kind of vibe. And SO weird about each other. I made [livejournal.com profile] merryish beta, and she hadn't seen the show at all, and she got to the end and said 'hey, it's like you wrote Lambs!' *g*

I'm so so glad that you liked it. Hopefully if/when I write them again, it won't disappoint!
